About Me
Hi, I'm Craig, an experienced Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (BABCP Accredited) and Counsellor (BACP Accredited). My aim is to assist you in gaining an understanding as to what is causing you psychological distress and to work alongside you to bring about meaningful change.
With over twenty-five years of experience as a therapist, I have a deep understanding of various therapeutic modalities as well as ways of working and connecting with individual clients. Whilst my practice has evolved, my current approach leans strongly towards Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), particularly a more recent version called ACT. My experience extends to working with a wide range of psychological difficulties and I am aware of the challenges to mental health in today's fast moving world. I have been actively involved in mental health and therapy delivery for over forty years, serving in many diverse settings and continuously refining my practice and what I can deliver to you today.
My Approach to Therapy
I recognise that embarking on the journey of therapy and discussing deeply personal experiences can be incredibly difficult. It takes courage to open up, and I am here to provide a safe, confidential, and empathetic space for you to do so. My commitment is to actively listen, truly hear your concerns, and to offer continued support.
Collaboration is at the heart of my therapeutic approach. I believe that effective treatment is a partnership, and I will work closely with you to develop a personalised treatment plan. This plan will be carefully tailored to meet your unique needs, goals, and circumstances, ensuring that our work together is relevant and useful to you.
Understanding Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT is a highly effective, short-term, and goal-oriented therapy that has demonstrated significant success in addressing a wide array of psychological challenges. These include, but are not limited to, anxiety disorders, depression, stress management, eating disorders, panic attacks, phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
It is the interconnectedness of our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours and how we relate to them that is at the heart of CBT. The approach suggests that unhelpful or distorted thought patterns can lead to distressing emotions and then maladaptive behaviours. By learning to identify and acknowledge unhelpful thoughts, we can fundamentally change the way we feel and subsequently alter our behavioural responses. CBT provides practical tools and strategies to help you reframe negative thinking, develop healthier coping mechanisms, and ultimately achieve a more balanced and fulfilling life.
My Commitment to You
I am deeply committed to providing you with the highest quality of care, delivered with compassion, understanding, and an unwavering non-judgemental stance. My priority is to create an environment where you feel safe, respected, and supported to openly explore your current difficulties without fear of criticism or judgement.
If you are ready to take the step towards positive change and are seeking support to navigate life's challenges, I encourage you to reach out to me today. I would be genuinely happy to answer any questions you may have about my approach or what therapy with me entails. Together, we can begin your journey on the path to recovery and lasting well-being.
